Tokyo Full-Day Food Tour: Asakusa, Ueno & Yanesen

Explore Tokyo’s historic neighborhoods through traditional snacks, local markets, nostalgic streets, and everyday food culture.

Discover a more traditional and nostalgic side of Tokyo, where historic neighborhoods, local markets, and everyday street life still shape the atmosphere.

Begin in Asakusa, home to Senso-ji, Tokyo’s oldest temple and one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. Around the temple grounds, narrow streets are filled with classic local snacks, from grilled rice crackers and sweet mochi to freshly fried croquettes and other old-school favorites.

From there, continue into Ueno, a district that blends greenery, local culture, and lively market energy. Around Shinobazu Pond and Ueno Park, the pace feels calmer than much of central Tokyo, while nearby Ameyoko Market brings a louder, more chaotic side of the neighborhood with packed alleys, street food stalls, grilled skewers, and casual local eats.

The atmosphere slows again in Yanesen, one of Tokyo’s best areas for experiencing the city’s older residential character. With its small shops, quiet streets, and nostalgic feel, the area is perfect for wandering while stopping for snacks like taiyaki or seasonal sweets along the way.

To finish the day, step into the completely different world of Akihabara, where anime culture, bright lights, and modern Tokyo energy take over. Along the route, you’ll also stop for a satisfying bowl of ramen and several more local food favorites that help tie the day together.

This tour is ideal for travelers who want a balanced mix of sightseeing and food while exploring neighborhoods that still retain the feeling of everyday Tokyo.
